The internet infrastructure is still very vulnerable to attack. Security improvements, such as Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) and Resource Public Key Infrastructure (RPKI), rely on cryptographic signatures. Although private keys should remain with the owners of the domains and internet naming resources, in practice they are outsourced to centralized authorities. This poses significant security risks.

Dr. Haya Shulman, Fraunhofer SIT, explained the CRISP lighthouse project “Secure Internet Infrastructures” to the minister and provided information about the first Hessian-Israeli Partnership Accelerator (HIPA) for cybersecurity, which Fraunhofer SIT launched together with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem HUJI in Israel.
